The operation of the long-distance ferry initiated by the Ministry of Transportation is expected to cut Jakarta-Surabaya travel time from about three days via the highway into one day by ferry. Apart from reduced driver and toll fees, there are also savings derived from reduced fuel costs and fleet maintenance costs which currently account for 29-32% and 12% of total truck costs. In addition, the reduced risk of accidents and safety is the greatest consideration in the use of roll-on roll off ferry boat.
